Krishna is a supreme deity in Hinduism, an avatar of God Vishnu, one of the most popular Hindu gods. According to the sacred texts, the mission of Krishna, who came down to earth from the spiritual world, was restoration of religious principles.

In traditional painting Krishna is depicted with blue or dark blue skin color, because in sacred Hindu texts the color of Krishna's skin is described as "having a shade of blue clouds." The sculpture by Ivan Korzhev is made according to the traditional iconography: Krishna appears as a young man with blue skin, sitting in a relaxed pose with a flute in his hand. It is believed that real yogi begin to hear the sound of the flute only on the highest levels of purification of the soul, because ordinary people's ears are clogged with material sounds and desires. Krishna is lifting his right hand in the mudra of blessing, protection and peace.
